Application
Sodium hydroxide of pharmaceutical quality, declared by the manufacturer. An indispensable intermediate in the production of a wide range of pharmaceutical products. Primarily used in the production of anti-influenza drugs as a sodium carrier, e.g. in the production of polopyrin.
Used in the production of salicylic acid and sulfonamides. Sodium hydroxide is used in the production of sodium ascorbate - which is an alternative to vitamin C, the sodium salt of ascorbic acid. Obtained by neutralizing ascorbic acid with sodium hydroxide.
Pharmaceutical grade caustic soda is also necessary in the production of iodoform. It is obtained from acetone or ethyl alcohol treated with iodine dissolved in sodium hydroxide in the so-called iodoform reaction.
Pharmaceutical sodium hydroxide is used as an auxiliary substance in the production of medicinal ointments and creams for external use. Caustic soda in the form of an aqueous solution is used for neutralizing carboxyl groups and thus for spatially cross-linking gelling substances, e.g. polyacrylic acids, in therapeutic gels. This increases the pharmaceutical availability of active ingredients in hydrogel preparations.
Attention! Sodium hydroxide is a hazardous substance. Even in solid form, it can irritate the skin, eyes and respiratory tract. When using caustic soda or its aqueous solutions, use appropriate personal protective equipment.
